From Monday 30 June road resurfacing works will take place to Farrell Steet from the junction at Church Street to the junction at Howley Lane.
Works are currently programmed to take up to 6 weeks with road closures between 7:00pm to 1:00am Monday to Friday nights (Saturday morning). there are no planned works at weekends.
All roads will be reopened to traffic outside these times.
The signed diversion route will be as follows: Church Street, Manchester Road, Kingsway North and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and vehicular access will be under the control of the Principal Contractor.
Residents, and others, wanting access must speak to the contractors on site as soon as they can as they will be able to advise when access will be allowed (ie. when safe to do so) and when not, and from what direction, e.g. if the contractors are working towards the Church Street end then access would be towards Kingsway end and vice versa.
The works are mobile and will be back and forth along the scheme, so access at the start of the shift might be different to the end of the shift.
Generally, access is most restricted at certain times too. At the start of the scheme, when the road surface is being removed (planing), then access may be restricted for 10s of minutes, however on the nights when the road surfaces are being replaced access is restricted for several hours as you cannot drive on the hot surface until it has cooled sufficiently.
The Principal Contractor for this scheme is Tarmac Trading Ltd.
Cones, barriers and signs are there for a reason - to protect our workers from danger and to keep the public safe. We urge drivers to pay close attention to safety when driving near roadworks.
