Scheme Detail

Works will soon be starting to carry out essential drainage works to reduce the risk of flooding on Liverpool Road at Sankey Bridges.

Works are currently programmed to start from 13 October 2025 and will take up to Spring 2026 to complete.

The works will be phased to minimise inconvenience as much as possible, but 24/7 road closures may be required due to the nature of the works.

Phase A – Liverpool Road closed from the junction at Hood Lane to the junction at Marina Avenue

Phase B – Liverpool Road/Marina Avenue junction closed

Phase C – Liverpool Road/Hood Lane junction closed & Hood Lane/Huntley Street junction closed

Phase D – Narrow Lanes/Traffic Signals on Liverpool Road between the junction at Hood Lane and the junction at Marina Avenue

The works will include the installation of a new drainage system.

The signed diversion route will be as follows: Old Liverpool Road, Thewlis Street, Sankey Green Roundabout, A57 Sankey Way, A562 Penketh Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and vehicular access will be under the control of the Principal Contractor.

Residents, and others, wanting access must speak to the contractors on site as soon as they can as they will be able to advise when access will be allowed (ie. when safe to do so) and when not, and from what direction.

Information on bus services affected by these works, including any diversions, will be available at stops before and during the scheme.

The Principal Contractor for this scheme is Tarmac Trading Ltd.

Cones, barriers and signs are there for a reason - to protect our workers from danger and to keep the public safe. We urge drivers to pay close attention to safety when driving near roadworks.
