Warrington stands ready to play its part in providing support for people fleeing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The government has announced it is temporarily widening eligibility criteria for family migration visas, so more people with relatives living in the UK can apply to come here. Ukrainian nationals who are currently staying, working or studying in the UK can also extend their existing visas by visiting the GOV.UK website.

Get in touch

You can also email ukraine@warrington.gov.uk if you have any questions or ideas for how you might want to support those affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

Drop in sessions

We also have drop-in sessions for both Ukrainian guests and hosts every Wednesday, 12.30pm-2.30pm at Orford Community Hub (off Festival Avenue), if you have any questions, need advice or want to chat with other local hosts and guests.

Housing checks for people who want to support

Our housing team will conduct checks to ensure the suitability of your homes for hosting Ukranian refguees. We will:

  1. Inspect the property to establish whether there are any serious hazards under the Housing Health & Safety Rating System brought in by the Housing Act 2004.
  2. Determine whether your property will be overcrowded under the terms of the Housing Act 1985 or the LACORS Bedroom standard guidance used to interpret the Crowding & Space hazard under the Housing Act 2004
  3. Check that there are working smoke detectors at each floor level on the escape route (these can be provided by the Fire Service if necessary)
  4. Check that there is a gas safety certificate (where relevant) or gas appliances are new or are regularly serviced
  5. Check that any room containing a solid fuel burning appliance (eg wood burner) has a carbon monoxide detector installed
Hosts can claim £50 per person

You can contact the British Red Cross support line number 0808 196 3651 between 10am-6pm. You will need to show passport evidence and a visa stamp to claim £50 per person, up to maximum family of six, within 14 days of arrival.
