Your Social Worker and PA will support you to consider your accommodation options before you turn 18 years which include:

  • Staying Put (staying with your foster carer until you turn 21 years)
  • Supported Lodgings
  • Supported accommodation
  • Family and Friends
  • Private rent
  • Social housing
  • Own property

Your entitlements:

  • If you choose to apply for social housing in Warrington you will be given ‘Band A Priority’ status. Most social housing in Warrington is offered through ‘Under one Roof’.

  • If you choose to set up your own home your PA can support you to access your Setting Up Home Allowance (see section 4 Finance and money). They will support you sign for your tenancy, set up your utility bills and access any additional support services you may need.
  • We can refer you for tenancy support services
  • We will link in with your housing officer at the earliest opportunity if you are at risk of losing your tenancy to offer support.
  • You will be exempt from paying council tax in Warrington until you are 25 years old.

  • In certain circumstances, Warrington Borough Council (WBC) can act as a ‘Corporate Rent Guarantor’ on your behalf where there are no alternative options.
  • We offer all University students a £2000 grant to assist with housing costs.
  • Your PA will offer advice regarding the current support that is available to first time buyers including younger people such as the ‘Help to Buy’ and Shared Ownership schemes in the Warrington area.
  • If you become homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless you can self-refer to the homelessness service or your PA can complete a duty to refer on your behalf.

  • There are various ways in which we can advise and assist you with problems relating to the repair of your home, or if you are having problems with your landlord. You can make a service request to the Council’s Housing Standards Service:
