The concreting over of more than 1000 acres of greenbelt on the south side of Warrington is not consistent with the Green Agenda of the Government. There is not sufficient evidence to prove that the number of houses identified in the Plan will be required. There is not enough emphasis in the Plan on the need to use brownfield sites, rather than destroy large swathes of the greenbelt and prime Agricultural land. The desecration of the land adjoining the M62 on the western gateway into Warrington must never be repeated. The Southern gateway to the town from the M56 provides a green and attractive entrance to Warrington. On its own it gives the visitor to the town, business or otherwise, an image totally in contrast to its perceived image as just another shanty North West relic of the industrial revolution. This feature can only have a positive effect on outside investment in the town. It is crucial to its retention that development is not permitted at all in the green corridor between the M56 and Stretton Road. Should the Local Plan be implemented in the form presently proposed, the Council will have been to South Warrington as Vesuvius was to Pompeii.
