I am writing to object against the local plans to build upon the green belt within Warrington South, in particular the plan to develop on Thelwall Heys.
I am saddened by the news that you are considering building upon Thelwall Heys. Thelwall is a village of great historical value mentioned as far back as Anglo-Saxon times where King Elder was so impressed that he announced it a city. A village of traditions surrounded by greenery which has managed to maintain its village feel, that of which is soon to be destroyed by the plans to build upon Thelwall Heys and the Warrington South.
Green Space/Pollution:
In 2021 our planet is in major trouble and we are at a tipping point to irreversible damage. Warrington already has a large pollution problem and removing green belt land and building houses on it is going to further the problem. As a town we have a responsibility to do our bit to save the planet, there are less environmentally damaging areas across the town which could be built upon. But these will not offer the financial benefit to the Council that building across Warrington South will.
Traffic:
The road network across Warrington South and leading to the Centre of Warrington isn?t up to the amount of traffic these new houses will bring. If the plan is to truly bring employment to the centre and to not just act as a commuter belt. Then great improvement is required and there are too many bottlenecks across the town which will make it difficult to provide the road network required.
As somebody who has lived in Warrington for a long time, it was laughable when suggested that people will be accessing the town via public transport or cycling/walking. As a town we offer an expensive, poor bus service that doesn?t provide the service required for a town of our size.
Population:
Over recent years Warrington South has attracted a new middle-class population who have been enticed by the green space and Cheshire-esque villages. All of which can be seen in the rising house prices across the area. To build across this area in such large quantities you risk losing this population to other areas within Cheshire.
