The role

The Headteacher and Governors of St Elphin’s CE Primary School are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated, positive, dedicated and caring Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our team of teachers, leadership team and support staff from September 2024. The post is full time, permanent subject to a successful induction period. Working hours are Monday - Thursday 08:00 - 16:00, Friday 08:00 - 15:30.

The successful candidate will work effectively with whole classes to cover teachers’ and leaders’ PPA and management/leadership time, covering a range of subjects across the curriculum across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and 2 in addition to other general teaching assistant roles as and when required.

The successful candidate would be expected to:

  • Hold the Professional Standards for Higher Level Teaching Assistants or qualifications that supersede this.
  • Have good numeracy/literacy skills.
    Support and challenge all pupils appropriately to ensure they achieve and progress well.
  • Have a good working knowledge of the National Curriculum and can plan and deliver this effectively across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and 2.
  • Have experience of teaching whole classes including planning and assessing children’s progress across the primary phase.
  • Have high expectations of all children and an ability to inspire children in their learning
  • Work well both with colleagues as a proactive team member and independently, showing motivation and a positive attitude.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills enabling positive professional relationships to develop with colleagues, children and families.
  • Be motivated and invested in continuing to develop professionally and be reflective in their practice.
  • Have a clear understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality.
  • Be willing to actively uphold our strong Christian ethos.
  • Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required, to the teacher on pupil achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence.
  • Establish a clear framework for pupil discipline, anticipate and manage pupil behaviour constructively, promoting self-control and independence, in line with established school policy.
  • Support the role of parents in pupil's learning and contribute to/lead meetings with parents to provide constructive feedback on pupil progress/achievement etc.
  • Have a good understanding and be able to effectively meet the needs of all children including those with additional needs.
  • Use ICT effectively in learning activities and develop pupils' competence and independence in its use.
  • Demonstrate initiative and good time management.
  • Act on a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of young children.
